Everyone should own a copy of this book!

I have no idea why this is the first review of this book - perhaps because it was published in 1990 and there is at least 1 newer edition? Anyhow, I'm honored to be the first!
This is one of my all-time favorite photography books for the simple reason that it's, well, so simple. No super-detailed and boring technical discussions - just straightforward techniques to taking better pictures. Remember - cameras don't take pictures, people do. Your equipment is almost completely irrelevant when it comes to taking good pictures. There are some pro photographers out there that have won contests using drug-store box cameras, just to prove that point.
You can sit down and read this book in an afternoon, but its real value comes with picking a few of the suggested techniques, then going out and trying them in the real word. Some of the discussions around film etc. are now irrelevant, unless you're going "retro," but otherwise, all the advice in this book is just as applicable today as it was 25 years ago.
Do yourself a favor, pick up a used copy, read it cover to cover and I literally guarantee you'll notice an improvement in your pictures almost immediately. I've shot weddings, portrait sessions, product photos - you name it - and I still remember the techniques I learned from this little book!
