From the Publisher
These books have never received the recognition they deserve. It's one of the most powerful and complex fantasy trilogies since Lord of the Rings, but Donaldson is not just another Tolkien wanabee. Each character-driven book introduces unexpected plots, sub-plots, and a host of magical beings so believably rendered you'd believe you might bump into them on your way to the bookstore.

More first-class fantasy
By Ritesh Laud
This one ranks right up there with The Illearth War, the second book of the first trilogy. Thomas Covenant and his companions sail deep into the Sunbirth Sea on a quest for the One Tree, from which Covenant hopes to fashion a new Staff of Law. Much of the novel (perhaps half) takes place aboard the huge Giantship Starfare's Gem. During this time the major characters have nothing to do but walk around on the boat or help with chores, so the pace of the book is clearly slower than that of the others in the series. Aside from a couple moments of excitement, Donaldson spends the bulk of the ocean sequences in developing the characters. We learn a lot more about Linden and she begins to understand her capabilities. Some of the Giants acquire distinct personalities as we spend days with them at sea. Vain is more perplexing than ever before, especially as we see how he interacts with Findail (a new character in the series). It becomes evident that these two will play some major role in the sequel "White Gold Wielder".
The story heats up in the second half, when Starfare's Gem is forced to make landfall at a fascinating but sinister port town called Bhrathairain. Here a plot unfolds to get Covenant to give up his white gold ring. We also encounter a deadly Sandgorgon, which I'm hoping will make a re-appearance in the sequel. This part of the story was my favorite. Also, the climactic events that occur at the objective of the party's quest are exciting and revealing. We learn why Lord Foul tainted Covenant with venom and get hints of the awesome might of the creature that formed the Earth.
The One Tree also has the most deaths of major characters so far in the series. So there are several tragic moments in the novel, which in my opinion gives it an element of realism and poignancy that the other novels lacked. This combined with the very good character development during the ocean sequences and the moving backstory related by the Elohim make The One Tree the deepest of the novels in the series up to this point.

ONE OF THE VERY BEST FANTASY ACCOUNTS OF ALL-TIME!!

ONE OF THE BEST OF THE SERIES
By RMurray847
THE ONE TREE is in many ways Donaldson's most richly complex book from a psychological standpoint, up to this point in the series. THE WOUNDED LAND dealt primarily with the visceral shock Covenant experiences upon returning to said land and the physical reactions of Linden Avery. We met some new characters and marveled at the changes in the land. And that was enough.

In THE ONE TREE, the relationship between Covenant & Avery grows ever more complex at every turn. They push & pull at each other, struggling with urgent need and vastly divergent understandings of where their quest should take them. We also get to revisit the wonderful giants, briefly reintroduced at the end of THE WOUNDED LAND. In the previous trilogy, we had come to know and love Saltheart Foamfollower, probably the single greatest character ever created for a "quest" fantasy story. While the giants in THE ONE TREE are wonderfully rich and alive, they don't quite reach Foamfollower's status in our hearts. BUT, we get to understand their race more clearly and experience their unbelievable strength and character.

I don't want to rehash the plot...it's been done well enough previously. Some reviewers have complained that the book is too episodic, or that some of the events that take place are just there to fill out the book to proper length. To my mind, the hardships the characters endure serve to illustrate their strength of character and the parts of their psyches that are conflicted or downright torn. I love that. Also, some mention that Covenant isn't the focus of the book as much as Linden Avery...that's okay with me. Covenant, in many ways, is less interesting than most of the other characters. He has my sympathy and support, but he's not the REASON I love these books.

Donaldson makes some remarkable leaps of imagination, and the Bloodguard are very richly portrayed. As readers of past Covenant books know, Donaldson is often very ambiguous about good vs. evil. Yes, Lord Foul is the bad guy, no question about that. But it's the bad impulses in otherwise "heroic" characters that make the books so complex. If you like that element of these books, then you'll love THE ONE TREE. It's full of conflict within the "good" guys.

Many middle books in trilogies have the problem of dangling a little at both ends. They're picking up from a thread of the first book and leaving one behind for the final book. THE ONE TREE has some of that, but the intensity of the final scenes and the resolution of some of the characters is richly satisfying, so rather than feeling let down at the end, you just want to immediately grab the next book. And thank goodness you can...unlike Donaldson's current Covenant books, which are planned to have three year gaps in between.

So, if you've like the Covenant books up until now, you'll love THE ONE TREE. It's more action-packed than THE WOUNDED LAND and more rewarding. If you haven't enjoyed the books (but for some strange reason have read up to this point), your mind won't be changed. And obviously, if you haven't read them but would like to, you MUST go back to the beginning. Do not hope to start reading at this point and just "pick it up as you go along." You'll completely miss 95% of what's going on.

Okay, it's SUPPOSED to be offensive...back off already!
By Barry Lee Dejasu
I personally find this to be an indisposable book of dirty jokes. I mean, come on! It runs the whole gamut of everything from racist and sexist jokes to religion and animals. Yes, yes, it is QUITE offensive--BUT ONLY IF YOU CAN'T TAKE A JOKE.
If you *can* take a joke, and a good one at that, then this book is a bible. I, for one, love it.
So to all those who hate this book and think it's offensive smut: don't read it or anything else by this author.
If you can handle very taboo but good jokes, read an enjoy!'
Oh, and how many people from New Jersey does it take to screw a lightbulb? READ AND FIND OUT!

Five Years to Freedom: The True Story of a Vietnam POW, by James N. Rowe

When Green Beret Lieutenant James N. Rowe was captured in 1963 in Vietnam, his life became more than a matter of staying alive.

In a Vietcong POW camp, Rowe endured beri-beri, dysentery, and tropical fungus diseases. He suffered grueling psychological and physical torment. He experienced the loneliness and frustration of watching his friends die. And he struggled every day to maintain faith in himself as a soldier and in his country as it appeared to be turning against him.

His survival is testimony to the disciplined human spirit.
His story is gripping.

Intrepid survival in the brutal jungles of Vietnam.......
By Kyle Tolle
Special Forces Lieutenant James N. Rowe was sent to Vietnam in 1963 as an advisor with the Military Assistance and Advisory Group (MAAG) to help train the South Vietnamese army. Early on in his tour, Rowe was captured by the Vietcong during a harrowing fire fight and became a prisoner of war for 5 horrible years.
Held deep in Southern Vietnam, Lieutenant Rowe would be confined in bamboo cages with no protection from the elements and suffered continuous bouts of dysentery, beri-beri, and fungus infections throughout his confinement. Medical care was practically non-existent and only became available when it suited his captors needs and whims.
During the initial years of captivity, Rowe would be confined with other Americans at his camp. He and other POW's would be witness to 3 fellow soldiers starving to death while the Vietcong offered no useful assistance to help save lives.
Subjected to years of political indoctrination from camp cadre and propaganda from Hanoi radio broadcasts, Rowe was psychologically tormented and abused. Adding to his further misery was that remaining American captives being held with him were released after 4 years leaving him completely alone and isolated for the remainder of his incarceration.
After several unsuccesful escape attempts, Rowe finally succeded in evading his captors in late 1968 and was rescued after signalling an American helicopter.
Five Years to Freedom is a very graphic account of jungle captivity and all the horrors associated with it. This book is also a story of incredible courage, strength, endurance, and bravery. Very well written and inspirational, this book is perhaps one of the finest accounts of POW captivity ever written.

love of family
By Kim Kachmann-Geltz
I just finished the gut-wrenching story of James N. Rowe, a resilient person who remains so in the face of near-starvation and repeated psychological, physical and mental torture. The book teaches what it takes to survive (mind, body and spirit) under the harshest, most inhumane conditions.

His book also provides a roadmap for living a meaningful life. Chiefly: love of family; optimism and a sense of humor (he nicknamed all of his guards according to their unique physique or personality); how good nutrition and exercise are critical; fierce commitments to higher ideals (he never gave into his interrogators or caved to their empty propaganda); a proactive attitude (he always took the lead in life or death situations with his brothers in arms); and reliance on God for inner strength and the sense of a higher purpose. His love of animals and need for companionship led to befriending and protecting the birds, shrews, chipmunks, and dogs in his prison camp from the cruel guards who gained pleasure from crippling or repeatedly drowning and resuscitating the small animals. His book is a coup.

If Colonel Rowe were alive today, I would tell him thank you for teaching us how to live like a warrior every day!

A GREAT book!
By DTodd
I have not written many book reviews, and although I'm retired military, I had not read any military-related books since my days in high school. I picked this book up on a whim while I was looking for something to read.

At first, it hardly sounded like a page-turner. The writing seemed stiff and bloated with what sounded to me like standard military propaganda (and after 23 years in the military, that was hardly an interest of mine). However, the writing then began to flow, and I was off on a journey. And what a journey it was. This is probably the most powerfully written epics regarding the plight of a POW that I'd ever read. Starvation, death, misery, sorrow and anguish. I found myself giggling at some of the references and stories, and actually had tears come to my eyes at times (I'll spare you the spoilers). All I can say is that if you are even remotely interested in reading a POW's story, this book should be your first stop. James N. Rowe was a great soldier and his story is absolutely worth the read. I highly recommend it!

Not just for young adults -- a great science fiction novel!
By Claude Avary
This book begins Anne McCaffrey's wonderful long-running series, "The Dragonriders of Pern." Although sold as a book for young adults and looking on the surface like a fantasy novel, "Dragonflight" is actually neither. Certainly, teenagers will (and do) love this book, but McCaffrey's work is mature and complicated enough for older readers of science fiction and fantasy to enjoy it on the same level as they would any work from an author of "mature" novels. And although the word "dragon" conjures up images of heroic fantasy, "Dragonflight" is actually science fiction: it only wears the outer clothing of fantasy. New readers will find this a surprise, as they learn that Pern isn't a "neverland" fantasy world, but an Earth-colonized planet; that the dragons are the native alien species who consume special minerals to chemically create their fire-breath; and that the evil menace that threatens the planet -- the "threads" -- are not supernatural monsters, but spores migrating from another planet that passes near Pern. Perhaps most surprising for a new reader is the focus on time-travel and time paradoxes; some of the most exciting parts of the book deal with the complexities, dangers, and potentials of time-travel.
The story takes place as Pern nears another invasion from the threads, but the planet is unprepared. Many people no longer believe in the threads (it has been hundreds of "turns" since the last attack), and there are fewer dragon dens (called "weyrs") than there once were to produce the creatures who can destroy the threads. Dragonrider T'Lar searches for a Weyrwoman to help him replenish the dragons before it is too late and unit the dragonriders to face the invasion.
This only scratches the surface of a tale full of suprises and unexpted turns. McCaffrey builds an intriguing world and wonderful characters, and each section of the book bursts with new revelations and plot turns. "Dragonflight" is not at all what you expect it to be...and that's an extremely high recommendation in these time when most science fiction and fantasy advertised for younger readers is bland and predictable.
This book also sets up the excellent second novel, "Dragonquest," which you will definitely want to read after this terrific book. Recommend for all fantasy and science fiction fans who have yet to take a wild trip on the back of Pernse bronze dragon.

In my heart, I believe Pern is a real place.
By Esther Schindler
Let me get the criticism out of the way first. Over the years, the unending franchise of Pern books has diluted the original magic of this book. After the first two series (this first trilogy, the Masterharper trilogy) and arguably Moreta's story (worth a comfortable 4 stars), McCaffery started trying to fit Pern into a scientific jigsaw puzzle so that it would "make sense." In my view, that was a major mistake, because the glory of this first book, and what made it a true classic, is the degree to which the reader contributes to the world the author created.

Enough of that. This is the classic, and it has earned its reputation. I read this book in the late 70s. I have probably read it a dozen times since then because it is so gosh-darn easy to fall into Dragonflight... and not want to drag myself out again.

I know intellectually that Pern is a made-up universe, but emotionally it's another story. In my heart, I believe it exists. That's how absolutely "real" her world is. The background appeals to our analytical sense of "what if this happened...": forgotten colonists on a generally well-endowed planet, with this one teeny problem: a neighboring planet throws destructive spores at Pern every 200 years, and the residents create genetic telepathic "dragons" which can counter the threat. But the science is left behind, because the story starts thousands of years later, when all the backstory has turned to myth (and not well remembered myth, at that).

But lots of people can create a good world. McCaffrey created marvelous characters to fill it. Like anybody stuck in a "save the world" situation, they try to act heroic, but they fumble because they're just people.

And like the best writers, she makes them come alive with the tiny details. There's one scene, for example, that I can remember with near movie-detail imagery, even when it's been two years since I last skimmed the pages. Lessa, our heroine, spent ten years hiding out as the lowest of filthy servants. The author describes her exaltation as Lessa gets to take her first true bath in years... and how her hair refuses to lie flat, frizzing and curling while she's trying to hold a conversation. It's not an "important" scene, but it paints the background of the world in which she lives, so that we sense the way the people live... not just what they say to one another in the foreground.

I've reviewed a few hundred books on Amazon. If I were permitted only five books on the proverbial desert island, this would be among those I'd choose.

The series that introduced me to my idol and role model ... Anne McCaffrey.
By Crystin Goodwin
This book - no, this author - still holds a very special place in my heart. I've read this book countless times since I first discovered it at age 13, and I never get tired of it. I love how it reads like a medieval fantasy, yet is firmly built on a science fiction world. I adore Lessa and F'lar and the many other colorful characters that fill the pages. I admire how the author creates a setting that lives and breathes on the page: a world that countless other readers, like myself, yearn to live in. I often joke that I'd scrub toilets if it meant I could live on Pern. This book enflamed my love of reading, and this author sparked my desire to create a fictional world of my own.

I highly recommend for fantasy fans as a stepping stone into the science fiction universe, for girls who are looking for strong female leads and swoon-worthy romance, and for anyone who appreciates richly detailed and incredibly developed setting.

Garfield lives his life to the fullest . . . 9 times!
Cave Cat -- the first cat crawled out of the sea 10 million years ago. He was happy to be out of the water -- until he met Big Bob!
The Vikings -- he was big, he was mean, he was a Viking. Garfield the Orange had looted a lot of cities, but none like St. Paul, Minnesota.
Babes and Bullets -- Sam Spayed wasn't the best private investigator in the world, but he did have one terrific thing going for him -- a secretary who made a great cup of coffee.
The Exterminators -- no mouse was safe from the exterminators. Catching mice was their life. It wasn't a pretty job -- especially the way they did it.
Lab Animal -- specimen 19-GB was not happy at the prospect of being dissected, so he did something about it. What happened set the federal government on its ear.
The Garden -- life was a carefree romp among hovering harmonicas for Cloey and the orange kitten . . . until they confronted the crystal box.
Primal Self -- he was an ordinary house cat leading an ordinary existence. A shadowy memory from another time changed all that.
Garfield -- the marvelous cat we all know and love. This is his life in a nutshell.
Space Cat -- he was lost in space with a computer built by the lowest bidder. And, he was not about to let his life slip away that easily.

Garfield? Reincarnated? The possibilities are endless!
By A Customer
Okay, folks, incase you have no idea what NINE LIVES is all about, I'll sum it up for you: Through reincanation, Garfield well lead nine seperate lives! That's right. These are a collection of short stories that tell who he was, what he was, and what he well be in his former lives, present life, and future life. It's an interesting book for Garfield fans (Just because I'm a 21st century mouse, that doesn't mean I don't like the tubby tabby like the rest of you), butlets face it, each story has nothing to do with each other. That's why I'm forced to write seperate reviews on each of the ten stories... IN THE BEGINNING: B This short story takes a look at how God created the cat. Hip and funny. CAVE CAT: A This one portrays Garfield as the first cat ever. Hilarious! THE VIKINGS: B- It's good, but look at the time frame. According to this, these vikings liked in 1984. But so did Garfield! How is this possible? BABES & BULLETS: A+ The best story in the boo! k! Clever, funny, and mysterious. EXTERMINATORS: A+ The funniest story in the book. I love the old lady. LAB ANIMAL: F The ending ruined the story. GARDEN: A- Original, with brilliant art PRIMAL SELF: C An otherwise good story, it's just too short. GARFIELD: A+ Funny! And you just got to love the ending. SPACE CAT: A+ Another hilaious story with another great ending!

...displays Jim Davis' remarkable talent like no other...
By Andrew Wan
This is quite a rare book about Garfield, to be sure, but it definitely proves Jim Davis cannot be put into the proverbial box. The story lines are diverse, with both whimiscal themes as well as the disturbing. Overall, it is a showcase of Davis' talents as a story teller and an artist above and beyond the classic Garfield we all know and love. If you really want to appreciate Mr. Davis' creativity, definitely get this book.

Interesting and Beautiful
By Zanio (Idle Listener)
I first found this book in 7th Grade in a comic book box at my high school library, and I was amazed. I'd always liked the Garfield comic strips, but this book was so much more. The artwork in all the stories was beautiful and the story lines were both delightful and hilarious. Garfield's commentary was also good.

Because these stories are all very different I'll rate them each individually.

In the Beginning: 4/5 This story is one of the cleverest in how it presents the 'joke' of the story and the artwork is very interesting, as it appears to be a amalgym of photographs, trippy colour saturation and air brush art. Very cool.

Cave Cat: 3/5 this one was funny but probably one of the weaker stories. The artwork was interesting and would certainly entertain a small child.

Viking Story (don't remember the title): 4/5 Funny, well drawn and true, in a sense, to the original Garfield comics. It has cheeky moments that would keep adults (or library dwelling teenaged girls, in my case) entertained, but would not be really picked up by younger readers. The artwork was truly comic book style, and Garfield looked like himself behind the beard and helmet.

Detective Story (again the title eludes me): 4/5 This is nothing like you would expect, it's very film noir, but funny none the less. The illustrations are very lovely and well drawn (reminds me a bit of Blacksad), and the story is actually quite a clever mystery. It loses a star because it's not really a comic per se, but it is still an entertaining addition to the book.

The Exterminators: 4/5 Bravo Jim Davis! This story is hilarious both for it's own jokes and for it's rather clever parody of the Three Stooges. True to original Garfield, but still unique and interesting, and the art is quite scribbly and humourous.

Lab Animal: 4/5 This story is a bit darker in tone, and the humour a little more oblique, but it's one of the most interesting tales in the book. Other reviewers have slammed it for being too scary, but this one isn't really too bad in my view, it is funny in its own way and it gets you thinking. The art is fascinting in its detail, and the realism suits the story.

The Garden: 4/5 this story probably deserves two ratings, one for the story and another for the art. The story isn't really funny, but it is very gentle (perfect for little kids) and it carries a nice message. The art is colourful and stunning, and it is certainly the most beautiful story in the book. The art work makes me think of Lisa Frank stationary and it is both futuristic in a way, yet also very eighties. Almost psychadelic, really.

Primal Self: 5/5 This one is probably my favorite from a story point of view. It builds suspense very well, and I laughed myself sick at the end. Primal Self is very unusual and if you like your humour a little dark and creepy, like I do, then this story has real appeal. The artwork is realistic, yet surreal and captures the mood of the story perfectly. I might scare very little children, but I'd say any child over seven could deal with this one, especially if they have a devillish sense of humour.

Garfield: 5/5 This is easily the most funny and obviously the truest to Garfield as we know and love him. It chronicles Garfield's birth and childhood and has a couple of very funny moments, especially when Garfield first goes to the pet shop. The artwork is colourful and nice and this story has the cutest pictures of baby Garfield and Odie. Little kids would love this one.

Space Cat: 5/5 Also very funny and interesting. The opening bit was hilarious and the overall story was clever and engaging. The art is unusual and similar to the comic strip. It neatly finishes the book and I really liked it.

I can't recommend this book enough, for fans of any age, it will impress any comic buff, and provides an interesting comparison of styles. My favorite ever Garfield book, and one of the best graphic novels I've ever had the pleasure of reading. Deserves every star.

Amazon.com Review
Perhaps you think the Star Wars trilogy cannot be fully realized with audio alone. You think you'd miss the stunning visuals, the emotions of the actors, and the special effects. You think it would be a disappointment. As Yoda might say, "So impossible is it? So certain are you?" This production of The Empire Strikes Back was created by the same team that produced National Public Radio's amazingly successful presentation of Star Wars: The Original Radio Drama in 1981. Presented in 10 episodes, the longer format allows for a great expansion of the story and new scenes--though purists may be disappointed by the slight but significant change in the story line while the Rebels are on Hoth. Once again, Mark Hamill and Anthony Daniels are on hand to reprise their roles as Luke Skywalker and C-3PO, and this time they are joined by Billy Dee Williams reprising his part as Lando Calrissian. A fine cast performs the rest of the roles, notably John Lithgow as Yoda and the very compelling Perry King as the "slimy, double-crossing, no good swindler" Han Solo. Sound effects and John Williams's score from the movie have been remixed to help create a convincing soundscape--so good, you can really "see" the movie by listening to it. The Empire Strikes Back: The Original Radio Drama will thrill all Star Wars fans, whether or not they enjoy audiobooks. (Running time: 5 hours, 5 cassettes) --C.B. Delaney

Review
Empire Strikes Back [brought to you by HighBridge Audio] was recorded in 1983 for National Public Radio, once again utilizing Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Anthony Daniels C3PO, Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian and John Lithgow as Yoda. Including the stunning music of John Williams performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, the ten episodes on five cassettes will capture the listener's imagination. I defy anyone to strap on headphones, or go for a very long drive listening to this show, and not fall right into the story itself. Sound separation and fidelity is unsurpassed, and hey, the story's not too bad either. -- Baby Boomer Collectibles, August 1994

"Adventure, excitement...A Jedi craves not these things"
By Crystal Starr Light
"Adventure, excitement...A Jedi craves not these things"
Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia are on Hoth with the main Rebel base. But Vader's singular goal is to find Luke Skywalker. When the Imperials find the Rebel base on Hoth, the Rebels must flee the Empire. But the Falcon is damaged...and Luke has been called to train under the mysterious Jedi Master, Yoda.
NOTE: Based on novel and audiobook.

I Liked:
I really liked Glut's writing style. It's nice and clean, easy on the ears. Also, Glut does a great job describing the scenes we see in the movie and generally translating the movie script into book form. I wasn't confused at what he was talking about (of course, partly that is because I knew the movie...).
The characters are nicely done. Luke feels like the young, eager, beginning Jedi; Han is a perfect rogue; Leia is a really strong character (I really appreciate this, as women in science fiction get bad rap for being a sex object and not much else).
Glut also gives an idea of how much time transpires in The Empire Strikes Back. Luke's training takes quite some time and endures much more training than is seen in the movie.

I Didn't Like:
I complained about A New Hope for being a dressed up version of the movie. Well, this novel is even worse. Other than changing Yoda's color from green to blue, having Hobbie crash into General Veers' AT-AT, and giving a more specific timeline for Luke's training and Han and Leia's travails in the Falcon, there is no difference from the movie, no deleted scenes, nothing notable or outstanding. There is little new insight into the characters, little more than you could already glean from watching the movie. This may not seem a bad thing, but most people go into a novelization trying to learn more about the characters and behind the scenes. If the book is basically a written version of the movie, why not just watch the movie? Why not watch Harrison Ford charming Carrie Fisher's Leia, or see the Yoda puppet cackle, or watch Billy Dee Williams as the charismatic gambler/Judas?

Dialogue/Sexual Situations/Violence:
Han tells another Rebel "I'll see you in h***".
Han and Leia exchange an intimate kiss.
Darth Vader Force chokes Admiral Ozzel. A Rebel pilot crashes into an AT-AT.

Overall:
This isn't a bad book, but I have a hard time recommending it. It pretty much is the movie in book form; most people would get more enjoyment from watching the movie than reading about it. I think all Star Wars fans should read once, but other than that, it is skippable.

A Little Better, A Little Worse Than the Movie
By DWD's Reviews
"Star Wars, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (The Original Radio Drama)" was created for National Public Radio and originally broadcast in 1993. It features several members of the original movie cast including Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C3PO) and Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian). John Lithgow steps in and does a strong job with Yoda. Vader suffers with Brock Peters as the voice - not because he did anything wrong, but because he is just not James Earl Jones.

George Lucas opened up the Star Wars vault and let NPR use the original soundtrack and original special effects - and they use them well. The soundtrack punches up the story and the special effects are used to move the story along as often as they are used to add a little detail to the experience.

The story is well told and has the added bonus of being able to take a little more time to expand certain scenes. For example, what do Luke and Han talk about after Han rescues him on Hoth and they wait for morning in an emergency tent? On the other hand, I don't know if anyone can really follow the radio drama if they have not seen the movie? In my mind, images from the movie were constantly being played - Lando's flowing cape, the bounty hunters all lined up before being sent out by Vader, the "cave" on the asteroid. I don't know if the radio drama would be able to create similar scenes in the mind's eye or not.

There is one major drawback - the are only 2 CD "chapters" or tracks on each CD. This is no big deal if you are listening in the car, but if you pull that CD out, you have got to do a lot of searching to find where you were. Each track is the complete drama as aired, including about 3 minutes of introduction, theme music and a reading of the cast members. It makes for slow listening when you've hear it for all 10 episodes.

Classic Film, Good Book
By David Pruette
We all know the story that unfolds in The Empire Strikes Back, and many people consider it to be the best of the films. So what does an author do to make the story seem fresh to the reader? Add details? Change the story? Closely follow the film? In the case of this book, Mr. Glut has elected to follow the film. I think he made the right decision, and he describes the action very well. I was not distracted by being familiar with the story, and I think that the unique individual who has not seen the film would obtain a good grasp of the tale by reading this book. Just as in the film, it was great fun to follow our heroes from Hoth to Bespin and Dagobah. One can only wonder what happens next.

Awesome read!

I loved all of the characters they came alive for me. The way Zenobia sat for 18 hours and watched as her mothers killers died... Epic
